SHEMS provides Utilities and Virtual Power Plant (VPP) operators with real-time data on energy consumption and generation from residential and commercial properties. This information enables them to optimize energy use for end users and reduce operating costs during peak demand periods. The system adheres to the “Energy Star SHEMS version 1.0” specification from the EPA, supporting VPP operators and Utilities in their demand management efforts. Leveraging AI/ML technologies, this solution delivers the following key capabilities. Occupancy based actions Using one or more motion sensors (PIR and/or Persistent types), the solution is capable of reducing the energy usage in the unoccupied areas of the home. Weather based tips & actions By understanding the external temperature and light conditions, the solution can suggest to the users to change the set temp of the HVAC or open the curtains instead of keeping the lights on - leading to energy savings. Demand Response actions In countries that have a variable tariff structures for electricity, the SHEMS solution lets users take advantage of the off-peak pricing either through pre-set rules or by reacting to an alert. Additionally, the solution can also independently respond to a Demand-Response signal sent by any Utility. The Gateway will then communicate with the various smart devices and appliances such as lights, AC, Water heaters and Dishwashers to schedule their operations in a calibrated manner so as to remove 4kW consumption from the home and offer the benefit of the lowered tariff to the consumer while the Utility gracefully manages the grid without having to resort to Peaking power plants or load-shedding Leveraging IoT for Effective DR in Homes Further, Blaze’s DR solution comes with a customizable Dashboards, Mobile Apps and Comprehensive reports to provide unprecedented visibility and control to the users.
